Reduce, Reuse & Recycle

Composting

If you have the space and can use the compost you make then a compost bin is the ideal way to get rid of most of your organic waste. There are many reasons to start composting now, but one of the best is the low price of the compost bins ordered through Cheshire Waste Partnership.

Charity Shops

Charity shops will take a range of items - some including electrical goods - and out the proceeds to good work. We have a list of shops in the Chester area, with information on what they will take.

Council Facilities

Chester City Council runs an effective doorstep collection scheme. There are also numerous recycling sites - which can be found by this council list, or on a map by entering your postcode.

The Council also offers a special collection scheme for larger items - it is worth noting that all electrical items such as TVs, computer monitors, and all white goods, collected through special collection (or from recycling centres) will be recycled.

Freecycle

Freecycle is an internet scheme to help people donate or exchange unwanted items of all sizes. It is easy to sign up and you will be amazed at what is on offer.

There are nearly 1500 local people signed up to Chester FreeCycle.

Furniture

White goods and furniture are often difficult to get rid of - there is a Cheshire Furniture Re-use Forum with links to local services, who will collect your unwanted items and put them to a good community use.
