The Green Chester engagement initiative, the DoNation, has been named a finalist in the 2014 Green Gown Awards.

The Sustainability Unit is delighted to have been recognised, alongside other exciting University of Chester award nominations.

Over the last year, through our partnership with the DoNation students across the University have been busy raising awareness of Green Chester and increasing the number of pledges by holding events such as the Trashion Show and a screening of Project Wild Thing as part of Geography's Sustainable Futures module. The SU promoted drinking tap water, rather than bottled water, using the Tap It pledge and installed water fountains across campus as part of Our Year of Water.

The Awards are now established as the most prestigious recognition of sustainability excellence within the tertiary education sector, as well as the environmental sector. We are very proud that Green Chester’s DoNation initiative has been shortlisted to the finalist stage of the Green Gown Award for Student Engagement. Not only are we competing for the prize against other UK Universities and colleges, but it is also included in the International Green Gown Awards.  And with 19% of the 180 applications being made to the Student Engagement Category, it is a great achievement to make the finalist stage.

Now in their 10th year, the Green Gown Awards recognise the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges across the UK. The Green Gown Awards have recognised 93 winners, 130 highly commended, 553 finalists and 1,412 applicants. Now, could we be crowned the 100th winner?
